YK Communications to Begin Fiber Upgrade in Ganado Area

Project is expected to be completed in early 2018

YK Communications is getting ready to convert more of its existing communications network from
underground copper cables to an underground Fiber to the Home (FTTH) infrastructure using fiber optic
cables.

This phase of the FTTH upgrade will take place in Ganado, south of Lake Texana along Highway 172 South.
Construction crews are ready to begin the project as soon as the initial planning phases are done.

Approximately 200 YK Communications customers in this area will gain access to fiber services; some of these
customers should be installed before the end of 2017, and the entire project is expected to be completed
during 2018.

General Manager Bill Rakowitz said, “This fiber project is one part of YK Communications’ overall commitment
to making network improvements that result in enhanced services and an improved customer experience. Our
goal is to provide all of our customers with access to the many benefits fiber brings. We are working on one
zone at a time, with the order strategically chosen based on the level of infrastructure need, customer density,
and network layout.”

Fiber networks can provide virtually unlimited bandwidth, resulting in much faster internet speeds. In
addition, fiber optic cables offer enhanced service reliability. Individuals and businesses in fiber areas can look
forward to having the internet connections required for data-intensive applications including television
programming, streaming, online education, cloud storage, smart home monitoring and automation, and more.
