This is the WSJTGROUP "Fall/Winter" Sprints HELP Page!

Return me to the WSJTGROUP Homepage...

Sprint Schedule: The Sprints are scheduled the last Wednesday (0100 UTC - 0500 UTC) in Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb & March of each year.
Note in NA this is Tuesday nights!

Times in NA are LOCAL Tuesday nights !!! Call freqeuncy for Six is 50.260 and Two is 144.140 MHz Mode is FSK441 At the end of the Sprint Results can be entered into a database, link at the bottom of this page...

PURPOSE OF THE SPRINT:
A scheduled time when HSMS operators with interests in making "Random Contacts" operate both two and six meters.

Sharpening the saw...
The Sprints allow for practice. Skills involving moving stations from one band to the other can be practiced, learning to
call cq using the "Off-Set" method of calling can be practiced, practicing making contacts on shared frequencies is likly and learning how to
coordinate your station activities with other locals. The primary reason to operate the Sprints, it is FUN!

What About A Certificate... The Sprints are not "contests" however.... Random Contacts "that qualify" can be counted towards the Random
QSO
Award or toward RQA Endorsements which are sponsored by the WSJTGROUP.

What About QRM... Deliberate QRM is never acceptable. Listen before you transmit and if you hear a station on tropo, chances are he is hearing
you. Work the same time periods as other stations being heard via tropo and attempt to work "Off-Set" contacts when the calling frequencies
are busy.

How Do I "Format A CQ" for off-set calling... The most used method is UX or DX (Where X = KHz) D20 copied on 144.140 would mean, I am
listening for calls on 144.120 MHz & will answer callers there. A Shorter Method is CQR (Where "R" is the 18th letter of the alphebet and indicates I am
listening Up 18 KHz) The lettering system does not allow for working below the calling frequency.

How do I move a Station from One Band to Another...
Instead of sending UFH RRR station WA5UFH might send UFH RRR 140 or when sending
his 73 he might send 140 73. One advantage of qsy to the calling freqeuncy is after the contacts is comleted it is likly another station monitoring 144.140 might
try to tailend your contact. Some stations may not want to QSY to a calling frequency, in that case they could send 138 73 or UFH RRR 138. Immediately
when the station receiving the QSY request copies it with sufficient confidence he moves to the new freqeuncy and starts calling the stations using the same sequence.
It is a good idea to listen a full minutes before starting the call just to make sure a local is not using the"oposite" sequences before you start.

Can I use the PJ... Certainly. Remember the Sprints are designed first to BE FUN! Every attempt should be made to keep contacts "Random" so be
considerate of what you post. Sprint "chatter" is fine but keep it relating to the activity peirod.

Can I use Sh Messages when operating "Off-Set"... Sh messages can and will generally lead to some confussion during high activity periods
Just because you are not on the calling frequency doesn't guarantee a "private channel"! However, if your fairly confident the frequency is clear of other users
and it seems the only way to complete is with the Sh Message Advantage, do it.

What About JT6M ... The Default mode is FSK441 however JT6M may be used. You might even move a station from 441 to JT6M!

Reporting My Activity... Click here to go to the Sprint Results DataBase Enter Your Results ... KAOS Keep Activity On Scatter NOTE Sprints now are both 2 & 6 Meters Combined !!!

These are only recommendations ... the Sprints and Random Hour Activity Periods are "Evergreen" tnx...
