Century Grid Award

The WSJTGROUP Century Grid Award is awarded for “Meteor Scatter” contacts with a
minimum number of Maidenhead 2 degrees by 1 degree grid locators per band. Grid locators are
designated by a combination of two letters and two numbers as describe in QST Magazine January
1983, pp 49 – 51.

The Century Grid Award and endorsements are available to amateurs worldwide.

General Rules:

Separate bands are considered as separate awards except for rovers. There is no band specific Rover
Award however the same qualifying rover contacts may be counted once for the specific band award
and once for the rover award. (see rover rules) The mode of propagation must be meteor scatter. Any
High Speed Meteor Scatter method employed is acceptable.  (Common methods are FSK441, JT6M,
HSCW, etc.)

Except for rovers, all contacts must be made from a location or locations within the same grid locator
or locations in different grid locators no more than 50 miles apart. The Standard Operating Procedures
must be followed and all contacts must include both stations receiving Both Calls, Reports and Rogers.

There are no specialty endorsements such as HSCW,FSK441 or JT6M only.

There is no starting date. However all contacts counted must have employed high speed meteor scatter
techniques and procedures.

Rover Rules:

Rovers are required to use a GPS or other accurate method for grid square verification. It is strongly
recommended that rover stations transmit their grid (4 digits only) when calling CQ and when sending
reports. This is not a requirement for contacts but strongly recommended for all rover contacts. There
are no band specific awards for rovers, thus contacts are all summed together for 50, 144 and 222 MHz
 bands for one total.

Rovers count any particular grid for multiple “grids credit” for each completion from  a new portable grid .
Any particular grid may be worked for a grid credit from any other “rover” grid once.

Example (N5SIX rover works WA5UFH in EL19):
WA5UFH 50.260 Date XX/XX/XX 10:00UTC  EL19 (2) (Two Rover Contacts from EM54,EM53
WA5UFH 50.266 Date XX/XX/XX  05:05UTC EL19 (1) (One Grid credit from EM40)
__________________________________________(3) (Total Grids counted for Award = 3)

All Rover contacts for the Century Grid Award must use the same call sign however if another call
sign is used  (Field Day, Club etc) the control operator must be the same person making application for
said award. (This should be clearly marked in the log)

Achievement Levels:

The minimum numbers of grids required for each available certificate are listed below.
50 MHz – 100 Grids
144 MHz – 100 Grids
222 MHz – 50 Grids
Rovers – 100 Grids (See section Rover Rules)

Endorsements:

scatter and high speed meteor scatter techniques after achieving a specific grid award. The following list
details the endorsement set points.
