All participants are encouraged to listen for "tailenders"
after completing QSOs. This procedure is explained below
however stations may choose different methods. The key is
to allow the other station to complete his contact while
alerting him you are monitoring and looking for his call.
Tailending Procedure
1. Determine which sequence the station is using you wish
to call. You must get this right!
2. Since you have time and opportunity, adjust your
transmit to match his.
3. Start calling the station on the opposite sequence as
he starts to complete his contact with the other station.
A good time to start might be when the stations you want
to call has started sending messages 3 or 4. Remember
he wants to complete his contact plus work tailenders.
4. When he calls you complete the contact following the
normal procedures.
The tailending procedure is good when you answer a CQ
only to have the CQ'ing station answer someone else.
After monitoring the contact you can "Tailend"
near the end of his contact.
Both Tailending and QSY procedures are quick ways to
add entries to your contest log; plus it's just plain fun.
QSY Procedure
All participants are encouraged to look for requests to
QSY to another band. After receiving RRR from W4XYZ,
instead of sending "73" W1ABC might send "QSY
265". When W4XYZ receives this request she
immediately QSYs and starts calling on 50.265. W1ABC
moves over to 6 meters when he hears no further pings on
144.133, and the pair then complete a QSO on 6.
