Interpretation of
The Standard Operating Procedures for Region 2
For WSJT JT6M & FSK441 Modes
written by the WSJTGROUP
Preface: The Term Standard Operating Procedure will be abbreviated SOP henceforth in this document. We shortened the wording of the SOP and added procedures for Operating On The Call Frequency. It is a shorter document. This document is not authorized nor intended to replace any other existing documents.
The document describes the SOP for FSK441 and JT6M modes only. During QSO attempts, while using WSJT, you can press the "F5" key and bring up "SOP" to assist with which message to send next.
It is expected that all stations operating in Region 2 will follow the SOP.

REQUIREMENTS FOR A
QSO:
Exchange of both call signs
Exchange of information
or report
Exchange of confirmation.
All exchanges above are copied via Meteor Scatter Pings only
with No outside help.
METEOR SCATTER
SEQUENCING:
The Western-most station transmits the first calling period
for all schedules.
Thirty second periods are the standard.
SCHEDULES:
Schedule frequencies are arranged between two individual stations.
The stated frequency is the USB dial reading.
Schedules should always be made at least 5 kHz away from the
calling (CQ) frequencies.
Schedules are made in Universal Time.
When a station copies both calls, he sends
calls and report.
If he gets both calls and a report, he sends his report &
Roger.
If he gets report and Roger, he sends
When both get a pair of Rogers, the QSO is officially complete.
It is customary to then send "73"
to let the other station know that it's complete.
REPORTS:
The exchange for all FSK441 / JT6M contacts is the burst duration-signal
strength report ("2-number" report).
| FIRST NUMBER
( |
--SECOND NUMBER (SIGNAL
STRENGTH) |
| 1 - Ping with
no info. (Not sent) |
|
| 2 - ping, up
to 5 sec in length |
6 - up to S3
in strength |
| 3 - 5-15 sec
in length |
7 - S4 to S5 |
| 4 - 15-60 sec
burst |
8 - S6 to S7 |
| 5 - over 60
sec burst |
9 - S8 and
stronger |
Note the ranges do not overlap. Once you
have started sending a report, it is NOT changed
during that schedule, even though you suddenly get a much better
burst.
Standard Signal Reports for WSJT is 26 or 27. (For Sh only 26 or 27 will be transmitted 'single tone' and these are the expected reports for routine contacts)
Calling CQ on the
Calling
Frequencies with NO offset:
The calling frequency is 144.140 & 50.260 MHz. Call, listen,
and operate on the same frequency. Use standard generated
messages except when transmitting Reports,
Example: Suffix R26 Suffix RRR
Suffix 73
This is necessary to prevent confusion on the frequency if it is
occupied with other QSOs.
Calling
CQ on the Calling Frequencies WITH offset:
CQU5" means "I'm listening and
will reply Up 5 kHz."
"CQD8" means "I'm listening and will
reply Down 8 kHz".
"CQ 123" would mean "I am listening and
will answer on 144.123 MHz."
When the CQing station hears a call on the offset
frequency, he/she immediately then moves to the offset
frequency, and the QSO takes place there.
CQ with
ANSWERING A CQ:
If it is only a CQ with no offset, you transmit and
receive on the frequency that is being used for the CQ. Use
standard messages except when transmitting Reports,
For those messages (Tx3, Tx4 & Tx5) append with the
suffix of the station youre working ahead of each message.
Example: Suffix R26 Suffix RRR
Suffix 73
This is necessary to prevent confusion on the frequency if it is
occupied with other QSOs.
If it is a CQ with offset, you change both your
transmitter and receiver to the indicated frequency.
You then call and listen on this new frequency.
Accepted True/Legal
Contacts for New Initials, New Grids/States,
Contests, Certificates etc.:
Contacts should be made on VHF with no outside help.
DXpeditions normally
run all schedules and CQs using the same sequence, usually the
first period, regardless of direction.
CQs by any station may be on either period.
Lower-power stations may find it advantageous to change Tx 2
Message to "Firstcall report Secondcall report"
or even "Firstcall Secondcall report."
For Contests where Grids are the Report the recommendation is
"Firstcall Secondcall Grid."
It is common for portable or /MM station to include the current
grid in the CQ.
Messages (Tx3, Tx4 & Tx5) are append with the suffix of
the station youre working ahead of each message when using
shared frequencies. i.e. Calling Frequencies
Bookmarks .....
Both call signs = Complete callsigns with no errors in letters or number i.e. WA5UFH WB5APD (calls may be received on different pings / and differnet lines in the Rx Text Window but you must receive both calls perfect at least once for each call before taking credit for "Both Calls Received")
Information or report = Singal reports must be "unknown prior to receiving them". Complete reports with no errors in text or if Short Hand (Single Tones) the tone should be heard and indicated in the displays. Examples of received decoded Text R26 ; R27; R FN20. If the information or report is included with "both calls" it should be similar to "Callsign 26 Callsign 2626" or some similar repetition.
Confirmation = Single tone 1764Hz decoded or indicated or Multitone RRR (At least one group of three R's i.e. RRR or if accompanied with the other stations report i.e. R26 or R27 or R FN20.
No outside help = All informtion is copied via. Meteor Scatter with no hints or outside help indicating what is being sent or received by any person.
Calling Frequencies = 144.140 MHz and 50.260 MHz
