Power Cycling Your Modem

From time to time your DSL modem may need to be “power cycled” to refresh its connection with YK Communications to ensure maximum Internet performance.  Your modem may also lose its connection with YK Communications and a simple power cycle is all that is needed to restore service.  Power cycling the modem is nothing more than shutting the modem off for a brief period of time, 5 to 10 seconds, and turning it back on.

Most of the modems provided by YK Communications have a power switch, or on-off button to cycle power to the modem.  This button or switch is normally located on the back of the modem and should be labeled to indicate its function, such as power or on-off.  Simply use this button to turn the modem off, wait 5 to 10 seconds, and turn the modem back on using the same button.  Once the modem is powered back on it can take up to 2 minutes to establish a new connection.  An immediate way to determine if an internet connection is available is to verify that the ADSL or SYNC light is shinning SOLID.  NOTE: Should your ADSL light continually flash or emit a red light after 2 minutes please contact a member of our Technical Support Team.

Most modems also show a reset button.  Please refrain from using the reset button, as it will return your modem to factory settings causing it to no longer work with the YK Communications network until a member of our technical support team can reprogram it.

If power cycling your modem does not seem to solve your Internet problems, please contact our Technical Support Team at (800) 395-1499 Ext 610 or via email at support@ykc.com
