Dial-Up Networking with Microsoft Windows VISTA

 

Internet Connection Wizard
Microsoft has created as simple to follow process called a Wizard that will ask you questions it needs to know in order to configure your computer to connect to the Internet. To begin the Wizard:
 
Click the "Start" icon displayed on your taskbar
 
Click the "Control Panel" button to pen the control panel options
 
Click on "Network and Internet"
 
Next, click on the "Internet Options"
 
On the Internet Properties windows, click the "Connections" tab and then click the button labeled "Setup"
 
The New Connection wizard window will be displayed.  Click "Dial-up" to begin.

Enter the dial-up phone number for your area.  If you do not know the number for your area please click here for more information.
 
Next, enter the "Username" you chose for your dialup account. 
 
Also, enter your password in the "Password" blank provided.
 
Finally, type "YKC" as the "Connection name:" for your ISP name, and then click "Connect"

 
When you are ready to Connect to the Internet
Click on the "Start" icon and click "Connect To"
                
 
Your computer will dial and after a short exchange connect to the Internet.  You should receive a confirmation message indicating that you have been connected to the Internet. You can now start Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook Express, or any other program that requires Internet access

 
When you are ready to Disconnect from the Internet

Notice the small icon on the bottom right corner of our screen (close to the clock) that looks like two connected computers.  Anytime this icon is visible on the Task Bar, you are connected to the Internet.

 

To disconnect from the Internet, right click this icon, and click "Disconnect from" as the picture displays to select the YKC connection.

 

Once you are successfully disconnected the two connected computers icon will show a red “X” verify you are not connected to the internet.
