Personal Web Pages

YK Communications provides its customers with up to 2Mbytes of web server storage space for personal web pages, free of charge.

We define personal web pages as sites that are not designed to create a profit for any individual, company or organization.  If your site is designed to create a profit, please inquire about our commercial web site hosting.
YK Communications also reserves the right to deny hosting a web site or remove a web site based on content that is objectionable - at our discretion.

So, with that out of the way...

If you are new to creating web pages, we recommend using a program such as Microsoft FrontPage.

FrontPage is a graphical editor that allows the user to create web pages much like you would create a desktop publishing document.  YK Communications includes FrontPage Express on our YKC CD ROM, or you can gain additional features and power using the commercial version available from most retail stores where software is sold.

Using FrontPage, you can begin creating your web pages and viewing your work right on your own computer.  Once your web pages are ready to display to the world, notify YKC and we will create a web directory and provide you with the information needed to transfer you files from your computer to one of our web servers.
Please send an email to support@ykc.com requesting your personal web site directory when you have files you are ready to transfer.

After setting up your personal Web Page with YK Communications, you will need to add a network place to your computer to allow easy maintenance of your Web Page.

Here are some terms and definitions that may help you get started with a personal web site:

URL

The URL is the address of your web site.  Your URL will be based on your User ID and always begin with http://www.ykc.com/     For example, if your User ID is "redfox", your URL would be:

http://www.ykc.com/redfox

Web Site Address

Exactly the same as URL.  See URL above.

default.htm

This is the file that the web server will look for as your "default" web page.  In other words, if you were to type:   http://www.ykc.com
into a web browser, you would actually be viewing a file named default.htm that is located inside of the www.ykc.com web directory.
As an example, lets assume that you choose to name your main web page file mypage.htm instead of default.htm
In this case, you would need to type: http://www.ykc.com/redfox/mypage.htm
to access your web page.
As you can see, naming your main web page file default.htm keeps your web site address shorter and easier to use for you and your visitors.
